Rookie of the year is a movie about a twelve year old kid named Henry Rowengartner who plays baseball for his local little league. He is not that great of a player and rarely gets time on the field. When he does make it onto the field he makes a fool of himself and just feels like he shouldn't play anymore. One day after the worst game he has ever had, Henry breaks his arm/shoulder after tripping over a ball at school. Well Henry is in a cast for a good while and when he finally gets the cast off, his arm heals back abnormally and makes it to where he can throw the ball faster than the pro's. The Chicago Cubs owner hears about this and has him try out. They like what they see and miraculously he gets to to play for the Cubs. Henry plays the whole season and leads the team to the National League Division Series. In the final game of the series, going onto the field for the final inning, henry trips over a ball just like he did the first time and he loses all his throwing power. He then does not know what to do, but figures out clever ways to get three outs and win the division.
Review:
I thought this movie was about as well drawn out and played as it could be. The actors all played their roles very well. I think all younger kids, teenagers, and even adults could find theirself enjoying this sports film. Even though it is completely fictional, the producer and everyone did a very good job in portraying it to be a real thing. By using the real Wrigley field, and using real Major League players added to that effect. If you ever get a chance and are trying to kill time or just wanting to see a good movie, this one is a good one for you!
